Fishing Adventures For June till Mid July

After our offshore attempt, its back to onshore business man...However not much of any luck on our lines but we were blessed with our 'nets'. Yup a $60 investment - fishing net...With this powerful investment we caught many new species that we had yet to hook....These fine specimens include Chaoxi, mullet and sliver biddy...and the best part was the 2nd Chaoxi caught on net was so far the biggest Chaoxi i had ever seen on catch reports on Fishingkaki and Fishingnewsroom...If anyone had yet to see a bigger one please let me know....

Here is a picture of the 1st chaoxi caught on net...rather a small one

Getting bored of getting nothing on line, fishing activities seemed meaningless....We tried Sungei Punggol, splashes everywhere, the spot was quiet, but no bites duno why?? Getting sick of Punggol 24,17 and end, Sungei Punggol doesn't work, in the end we decided to go back to BJT and check it out......

1st Offshore Trip on 17 MAY 2009

After weeks of endless preparations and discussions, we were finally on our maiden's voyage via the so called 'big boat with 3 beds'.

Date: 17 May Sunday
Time:
7pm to 7am
Venue: Southern Islands
Participants: Hanming, Miss Anki, Kelvin & Xiaoyan, Wayne & Dell, Louis & Yida and lastly me. (total strength 9 ppl) plus Abu and the boatman.

We arrived late and boarded the SZ 7953 around 7.30pm and off we go on our 1st offshore trip!

An hour was the boat's journey to our 1st spot of the night and by then all equipment geared up for battle oradi but to our dismay all of us couldn't really get used to the rocking and shaking of the bumboat. After an hour of fruitless fishing, boatman decided to change spot juz then Dell shouted got fish!!

First fish of the night! A shark! First time holding 1 in my hands! Wonder if its edible? Anyway off we go to our 2nd spot and 3rd and 4th and 5th and 6th...........
What happened? No fish and no squid! Oh no, no baits left, Abu still asked us not to bring baits luckily we brought some dead prawns along.

Forgot which spot Wayne got this Port Dickson shark and also this was shark number what we caught. Total we got about 5 or 6 sharks, biggest shark on Miss Anki line weighed around 2kg. A highly anticipated offshore trip had turned out to be a boring trip as no other decent catches besides sharks.....Gradually one by one slept on the rocky boat.

Finally at the 7th last spot, Abu caught something using handline. A 2kg Grouper! That's we have been waiting for the whole night man! Morale boosted and remaning anglers Hanming, Louis, Yida and me continued the battle. I copied Abu using handline and shortly later Hanming got another grouper......

This was a bigger grouper weighing around 2.5kg and moments later i got my very own grouper on hand line! Finally break zero liao! Another main factor that we underestimated was the super strong under current, Kelvin, Wayne and my gear couldn't stand a chance aginst it at all.....However lucky that the 7th spot worked out well!

This super VIP arrived at about 5am plus, this 15kg (estimated) leopard ray was pulled up by the boatman on hand line! Best catch of the night man! I was there witnessing the whole process and all i could say was it was a test of strength and might.....

Total catches of the night, i would say its quite a not bad harvest considering that till 4am then we got our 1st decent catch.

Closed up view of the leopard ray and Gaos, Louis took the ray home and i wonder how it taste like? Actually i wanted to tapao a piece of it home but got to cut up the ray a bit troublesome.

This shark should be Miss Anki's 2kg catch, imagine now its 200kg, Miss Anki would be in serious shit man!

Closed up on the fatty yummy Gaos, snapper and deep sea Kim Bah Lors. The grouper was yummy as i took 1 home, Miss Anki took the snapper and commented delicious. I think all deep sea fishes are tasty by nature. We decided on a second trip somewhere end of June and hopefully we can get a big harvest!

Bedok Jetty Adventures

Venue: Bedok Jetty Night Fishing
No of trips: 3 (20 Apr, 25 Apr and 1st May) according to my records.

A lot of anglers faced the same problem as us -> no place to fish at night!
Thus we decided to seek out some night fishing at our very own BJT. Why BJT?
Advantages:
1. Longest Jetty in Singapore.
2. 24hrs open to public.
3. Adequate lighting and toilet facilities.
4. Suitable for 'some' surf casting anglers with their newly bought seahawk reels.
5. Clean environment without being a threat to dengue fever.

Although BJT has a lot of advantages, it does have some disadvantages as well.

Disadvantages:
1. Super crowded at most times.
2. Insufficient shelter provided.

Let the story begins................

Yes, my very 1st grouper caught on line. Although its a small one but I'm still ecstatic about it. I remember using tamban meat. How i wished i can get its zor ma!!

Yups best bait of the fishing society, ladies & gentlemen may i present tambans!!! Don't ever look down on this fish, every big catch story started out with tamban jigging!!! Of coz net casting on a group of tambans proved more efficiently than jigging but no guarantee net casting sure kana lor....

Another new fish caught by special guest Louis's friend, i forgot his name. But this flatfish had a grouper like body and it certainly doesn't look yummy at all....

Another cute fish caught by me, until now i still duno what fish is this? All i can say is that it has fins on top of its body and it flips like a humming bird..... It flips so much that i couldn't take a clear picture of it.

On our 1st fishing trip to BJT on 19 Apr 11pm plus until 20 Apr morning 2am plus we witnessed a solid stingray hookup thus one by one decided to pose wif the creature....

(As due to some copyright issues, certain faces don't wished to be disclosed)

Delicious BBQ crabs!!!

Date: 10 Apr 2009
Venue: Punggol XXX Spot
Menu: BBQ (female)
crabbie
Lucky hand: Miss Anki

Our invested crab traps paid off handsomely!!! 1st big crabbie in the house, although a bit disappointed that it came without its front claws but still happy that our efforts paid off...Not to mention our special guests Chef Louis and handy Ryan.

Top view of the prized catch!! Everyone wants to pose with this crabbie before it turns red (get what i mean).

A picture during the BBQ process, yummy!!! The crab's juices kept spitting out and you can hear the meat inside dancing. Best crab i had so far in my life! (Coz i seldom eat crabs lol)

Alas, our feast begins!! The meat was so fresh and juicy and sweet and whatever....
but right after our meal, uncle Albert passed by and commented us as Thai workers like very barbaric. At that point of time i don't like his comments. F*** care!!

Jan to Apr 2009

The beginning of a new year 2009 brought along many new species and new fishing experiences. Let the pictures do the talking.....Venue : Punggol XXX spot & Punggol 17.

A toadfish or some call kuku fish, its dangerous to hold in your hand as rumored it will bite off your fingers. (children please don't try this yourselves, uncle got trained before) I remember catching it with kelong sotong and i thought it was a grouper at 1st. Kind of disappointed.

'Kim Kor' famous for its venomous spikes.
We saw this fish at 6 pipes East Coast Park and didn't know that the fins were so poisonaus until someone on the forum told me that. Phew.....

My first stingray at Punggol 17, damned excited and happy when the rest of the guys kept guessing 'its a chermin....no its a stingray......'

The infamous goby fish, portrayed as 'aggressive fish' by Miss Anki.Rumored that it had ate up numerous fishes in Miss Anki's marine tank. Thus she decided to give up the parenthood...

Cardinal fish, rumored to be best bait for stingrays but so far we didn't get anything when using it as bait.

Legendary 'lai liu ha' mantis shrimp.Heard that the price per 100g is quite expensive but i wonder how it tastes like? hmmm

More varieties caught at Punggol XXX spot. Every baiter loves the bottom last tamban fish, best bait for everything that you desire to catch...

Our investment crab traps caught these slimy eels...you wouldn't want these digusting animals cuddling your precious lines and rods man!!!
